Why OpenWriter Exists

Every creator tool makes you choose. Write here, publish there. Use this for social, that for email. And if you want AI to help? It sounds like every other chatbot — not like you.

OpenWriter is one editor that does all of it.

What’s Inside

A real editor. TipTap 3.0, markdown-native, 5 themes, light and dark mode. Your documents are plain .md files on disk. No database, no lock-in.

5 compose views. Switch between document, tweet, article, blog, and newsletter mode without leaving the editor. Each view optimizes for its platform — character counts for tweets, metadata fields for blogs, subject lines for newsletters.

AI that writes like you. Author’s Voice profiles your writing across 6 linguistic dimensions: diction, syntax, punctuation, rhetoric, discourse, and idiolect. When the AI rewrites or generates content, it sounds like you wrote it — not generic AI output.

Publish everywhere. Connect X/Twitter, LinkedIn, and GitHub once. Post from the editor. Schedule with recurring slots or pick a custom time. Send newsletters with custom domains and 4 style presets.

31 MCP tools. Your AI agent gets a full toolkit — document editing, workspace management, version history, image generation, and import. Works with Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or any MCP-compatible agent.

The Agent Story

Here’s what’s different: your AI agent writes directly into the editor. Changes appear as colored decorations — green for inserts, blue for rewrites, red for deletions. You review with vim-style hotkeys and accept or reject each change.

The agent does the work. You maintain creative control.

What’s Next

We’re building in public. The editor is open-source (MIT). The publishing platform handles the infrastructure — connections, scheduling, newsletters, and soon, hosted publications with paid subscriptions at 0% take rate.
